GroupWise Utilities

Rebuilding Archive

Try this if messages in Mailbox are over 30 days old and/or user can not open archive.  Note: Make backup of clients archive.

Hold down the CNTL + SHIFT key and then select OPEN ARCHIVE. You will be prompted to rebuild the mailbox, select YES.  If the rebuild is successful, exit GW5 and restart.  Messages (over 30 days old) should start archiving within a few minutes.  If rebuild is not successful, try running GWCHECK utility.  Worse case is archive is damaged and inaccessible.  If this is the case, rename or delete archive and let GW create a new one.

It is also possible that the oldest message in the mailbox (or folders) is hanging the archive process. Try archiving the oldest message manually by highlighting it and selecting ACTIONS, ARCHIVE. If it does not archive, this is the source of your problem. Delete the message, exit GW5 and restart. The remaining messages (over 30 days old) should start archiving within a few minutes.

GWCHECK

GroupWise Check can be used to fix problems with the GroupWise database.  You should back-up the archive directory prior to using this utility.

You will find the GWCHECK Utility within your GroupWise folder on your hard disk (default C:\Novell\GroupWise).  A Client Services Tech should be the only ones to execute this utility.

Novell Registry Editor (NRE12)

There may be times when it is best to totally uninstall all GroupWise registry keys and start over. (NRE12 can also be used to uninstall client32 keys.)

You will find the NRE12 Utility on the Mednet Menu.  Only Client Services Techs will have access to this utility.

  • Select Tools, GroupWise5, Remove GroupWise Registry Keys, All Novell GroupWise Client Keys.
