GroupWise ‘NewBinary19’ Install Error


There have been reports of an installation failure during GroupWise upgrade. This document identifies the error message and provides steps to correct the issue.


The failed install presents two error dialog boxes:  [see Figures 1 -2]

The problem is with a particular version of mapi32.dll that is part of Microsoft’s Windows Messaging. While the installation may complete, once the client begins to use GroupWise many functions do not work properly.

Uninstall Windows Messaging and GroupWise

 To correct this problem perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start then Run

  1. Type appwiz.cpl then click OK

This will open Control Panel’s Add Remove Programs Window. The items listed are in alphabetical order.

  1. Scroll past GroupWise and highlight Windows NT Messaging and select Change/Remove

  1. Scroll up to GroupWise, highlight and select Remove

You are now ready to install GroupWise by launching the same icon as before. This will automatically install Windows NT Messaging as well.

Note:   GroupWise installs/uninstalls have no effect on your email messages, appointments, addresses, or archived email.  These items are stored in a separate location.
