Effects of the 2007 Daylight Saving Change on GroupWise Appointments

The display of calendar appointments in GroupWise and most other calendaring programs is dependent on the time zone and daylight savings time settings of the station being used. When the DST patch is applied, existing appointments in the new DST ranges will move forward one hour.

If you use GroupWise for appointments, you should review all appointments scheduled in the new DST range from:

  • Sunday March 11, 2007 – Sunday April 1, 2007
  • Sunday October 28, 2007 – Sunday November 4, 2007

Information Resources strongly recommends that users contact the IR Call Center at 214-648-7600 or via email to schedule a technician to install the Daylight Saving Time patch on your Windows or Macintosh PC, verify time zone and DST settings, and assist with adjusting appointments.

Patches and additional Information

Suggestions for those applying the patch themselves:

  1. Confirm whether your station is patched. On Tuesday, February 13th, 2007 Microsoft released a high-priority DST patch which is automatically installed on Windows XP stations that have MS Automatic Update enabled. The previously available patch was set as an 'optional update' and required manual intervention. Look for KB938288 or KB931836 in Add/Remove Programs.
  2. For Macintosh, OS 10.4.6 or higher includes the DST patch. For 10.3.x there is a 3rd party patch that will display as an installed program.
  3. If your station is not yet patched, then before patching, edit the subject line of all appointments in the new DST ranges to include the appointment's start time.
    • Example: Staff Meeting – 8:00am
  4. For Windows XP, verify system date & time settings - Start/Control Panel/Date & Time/Time Zone tab. Settings should be:
    • (GMT-6:00) Central Time (US & Canada)
    • 'Automatically Adjust clock for daylight saving changes' should be checked (enabled)
  5. Personal (posted) appointments can be dragged & dropped to the proper time.
  6. Group appointments you have previously sent should be resent after patching (remember to add the time to the subject).
  7. Group appointments sent to you by others must be resent FROM A PATCHED STATION.
  8. New personal (posted) appointments that you create after patching will display correctly.
  9. Don't forget to patch laptops and home computers
